Suspect booked on charges of attempted murder after early-morning incident

FOLSOM — A security guard at Powerhouse Pub in Historic Folsom was hospitalized with major injuries early Friday morning after police say a pickup truck backed into the business, then struck and ran over the guard during an attempted escape.

The incident occurred shortly after 12:30 a.m. outside the establishment at 614 of Sutter Street. According to the Folsom Police Department, patrol officers responded to multiple calls reporting that a pickup truck had backed into the front of the business. Units from the Folsom Fire Department were dispatched at 12:32 a.m.

Police said the adult male suspect fled immediately after backing into the building. Security guards chased the truck on foot and located it a short distance away. When they approached, the suspect turned the vehicle toward one of the guards, hitting him, then backed up and ran over the victim a second time before driving off.

The injured security guard was transported to a local hospital with major injuries. “The victim was taken to the hospital with significant injuries but is expected to survive,” Folsom Police Commander Andrew Bates told Folsom Times.
