One transported with major injuries; lengthy roadway clean up delays commute

FOLSOM — Traffic along Folsom Boulevard just southwest of Iron Point Road was significantly disrupted Wednesday morning after a serious vehicle collision involving at least two vehicles, one of which rolled over and struck a tree, prompting a large emergency response and extended lane restrictions during the morning commute.

According to an advisory issued by the Folsom Police Department, motorists were urged to avoid the area of Folsom Boulevard and Iron Point Road due to the crash and ongoing investigation. The center lanes of the roadway were closed, with traffic slowed as first responders worked the scene.

Emergency response records show the collision was reported shortly after 6:15 a.m., with multiple units from the Folsom Fire Department and Folsom police dispatched to the location. The incident was classified as an expanded traffic collision and remained active for more than an hour as crews assessed the scene and managed traffic impacts.

Folsom Times responded to the scene Wednesday morning, where one vehicle was observed overturned off the roadway in the center median where it had collided into and uprooted a large tree. The crash resulted in visible debris, from car parts, including parts of the vehicle’s engine, to contents of the vehicle extending into the roadside area, requiring coordination with city public works crews to assist in clearing the downed tree and roadway hazards.

At least one person, a male was transported to the hospital with what was described as major injuries, as reported to Folsom Times by Lieutenant Lou Wright of the Folsom Police Department The cause of the collision remains under investigation.

During the response and cleanup, traffic on Folsom Boulevard was reduced to single lanes in both directions, creating significant delays for drivers traveling through the area and a traffic back up extending onto eastbound Highway 50 from the connecting onramp. Police advised motorists to seek alternate routes while the investigation and roadway cleanup continued.

Officials said traffic restrictions would remain in place until the damaged vehicles were removed, the fallen tree cleared, and investigators completed their work.
