GRANITE BAY—A neighborhood in Granite Bay was placed under a shelter-in-place order Wednesday morning as the Placer County Sheriff’s Office investigated a suspicious device discovered in a residential area.
Deputies responded to the area of Hidden Lakes Drive and Douglas Boulevard shortly before 10 a.m. after a suspicious item was found. Upon arrival, authorities confirmed the presence of the device and immediately deployed the department’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team to assess the situation.
As a precaution, residents in eight nearby homes were instructed to remain indoors while the bomb squad conducted its investigation. The affected residents were notified directly, and deputies shut down access to Hidden Lakes Estates from Douglas Boulevard. Douglas Boulevard was also closed at Mooney Road as a safety measure.
Details about the device, including its appearance or why it was considered suspicious, were not immediately released.
“We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to ensure the community’s safety,” the sheriff’s office stated in a public advisory.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or evacuations beyond the shelter-in-place directive. The investigation remains active, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
