This week’s Folsom Times Shelter Pet Spotlight, presented by Symmetry for Health of Folsom, features a resilient and loving Pit Bull Terrier named Desert Rose. She’s a senior sweetheart looking for a warm, caring home where she can spend her golden years. Desert Rose is currently residing at Sacramento County Animal Services’ Bradshaw Shelter.
Desert Rose is a spayed female, fawn Pit Bull Terrier, estimated to be about 10 years old. Weighing approximately 40 pounds, she has been at the shelter since Jan. 27. Life hasn’t been the easiest for this gentle senior—her skin is a bit rough, her joints a little stiff, and the hard shelter floors aren’t doing her any favors. But beneath her tired exterior is a spark that refuses to go out.
At first, Desert Rose seemed unsure in the shelter, but then we saw it—the wiggle. A little tail wag, a playful bounce in playgroup—proof that there’s still joy left in her soul, waiting to be nurtured. She may not have years ahead of her, but she deserves to spend whatever time she has left in a warm, loving home, not a kennel.
Desert Rose recently met some social dogs at the shelter and did well. While she wasn’t interested in playing, she was patient and tolerant, even when surrounded by more rambunctious youngsters. If you’re looking for a calm companion or a gentle buddy for your dog, bring them to the shelter for a meet-and-greet to see if they’re a match!
If you’d like to meet Desert Rose in person, visit Sacramento County Animal Care Services at 3839 Bradshaw Road, Sacramento. The shelter is open for adoptions Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 5 p.m., with extended hours until 6 p.m. on Wednesdays. Adoptions are first-come, first-served, so be sure to bring a valid ID and plan your visit soon.
By adopting Desert Rose—or one of her shelter friends—you’ll not only gain a loving companion but also help create space for another pet in need. Desert Rose deserves a soft bed, a kind hand to soothe her, and a heart willing to cherish her golden years. If you’ve ever dreamed of giving a senior dog the love they deserve, she’s waiting for you. Let’s not let her story end in a shelter.
