Folsom resident Dustin Silva has announced his candidacy for Folsom City Council District 2, vying for a seat in the upcoming November election. 

Silva, currently serving as a Captain with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, brings 25 years of law enforcement experience to his campaign. His career spans various roles including patrol, detectives, narcotics, K9 Regional Transit, and corrections. Notably, Silva has dedicated his recent focus to addressing critical issues such as homelessness, retail theft, and human trafficking, according to his campaign announcement. His efforts culminated in a recent promotion to the rank of Captain, where he now oversees the Investigations Division, handling cases involving homicide, child abuse, sex assaults, and property crimes of the department.

In his bid for a seat on the Folsom City Council, Silva emphasizes his commitment to public safety, aiming to, “maintain Folsom’s reputation as one of California’s safest cities.” He simultaneously announced that he is being endorsement of the Folsom Police Officers Association in his campaign.

Previously, Silva served as president and board member of the Law Enforcement Managers Association and currently contributes to the Sheriff’s Government Affairs Committee, where he actively engages in drafting, evaluating, and consulting on pro-law enforcement legislation.

Silva’s connection to Folsom runs deep, having relocated to the city in 2011 with his family to embrace its offerings. He is actively involved in the community, volunteering as both a coach and board member of the Folsom Jr. Bulldogs program. Additionally, Silva and his family enjoy exploring the local bike trails and outdoor areas, underscoring his dedication to preserving the natural beauty of the community.

Drawing from his early experiences working in a small restaurant owned by his parents, Silva advocates strongly for local businesses. He pledges to tirelessly work as a Folsom City Councilman to ensure that these businesses receive the necessary support to thrive.
