FAIR OAKS — Firefighters responded to a predawn blaze that involved two homes in nearby Fair Oaks early Wednesday, where they insured several residents weee safely evacuated and saved both structures from being a total loss.

The incident took place at approximately 3:08 a.m. when fire crews from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District arrived at the scene to find active fire involving  from two adjacent homes on Cabodi Court in Fair Oaks. As crews were enroute, reports indicated the possibility of individuals still inside one of the residences, prompting firefighters to swiftly initiate search and evacuation operations upon arrival.

The intensity of the situation necessitated the escalation to a second alarm, summoning additional resources to bolster fireground operations, according to an incident report from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District.  With adequate resources quickly on scene, crews managed to bring the fires under control, preventing its spread to more neighboring properties.

According to initial investigations, the fire originated along the fence line between the two properties. The exact cause of the blaze remains under investigation, according to Metro Fire.

A total of seven occupants and multiple pets were safely evacuated from one home while five occupants from the neighboring residence also evacuated and weee reportedly  unharmed.

“It’s important to remember that this was a middle of the night fire where people are sound asleep in their beds. Fortunately both homes had working smoke alarms that alerted the occupants to get out,Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department officials shared. “This incident serves as a reminder to check your smoke alarms and practice your home fire escape plan.”

Authorities continue to investigate the specific cause that ignited the fire. This is one of several “fence line” fires that has damaged neighboring homes in the region in the past two weeks, serving as a reminder to residents to make sure the areas between their homes are clear of flammable and dry vegetation.

A total of 29 units were dispatched to the Tuesday morning incident, including two truck companies, seven engines and two medic units.
