SMUD has partnered with the UC Davis Center for Neuroscience to offer students from Sacramento the opportunity to explore the region’s largest science museum, the SMUD Museum of Science and Curiosity (MOSAC), through a special field trip program.

On Friday, September 6, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., students from across the Sacramento community will participate in a free day of learning and exploration at MOSAC. The event will feature interactive neuroscience booths and hands-on activities with UC Davis neuroscientists.

The MOSAC Field Trips program aims to increase accessibility to the museum for all community members, with a particular focus on vulnerable youth. Through this initiative, students will engage in STEM-based learning experiences at the dynamic science center located at 400 Jibboom Street in Sacramento.

The event will include participation from SMUD Board Member Gregg Fishman, representatives from SMUD and UC Davis, as well as dozens of students and community volunteers. Participating students will gather at their schools on Friday morning and be transported to MOSAC, where they will experience exhibits, special lessons, and a planetarium presentation.

The program is part of SMUD’s broader commitment to supporting local educators and connecting students with STEM concepts and career opportunities, aligning with the utility’s goal to decarbonize the region’s power supply by 2030.

As the nation’s sixth-largest, community-owned, not-for-profit electric service provider, SMUD has been providing low-cost, reliable electricity to Sacramento County for more than 75 years. SMUD is a recognized industry leader and award-winner for its innovative energy efficiency programs, renewable power technologies, and sustainable solutions for a healthier environment. Today, SMUD’s power supply is on average about 50 percent carbon-free, with a goal of achieving zero carbon in electricity production by 2030. SMUD’s rates and customer bills consistently rank among the lowest in California and are, on average, more than 50 percent lower than those of neighboring investor-owned utilities.
