The non-stop laughs continue at Historic Folsom’s Sutter Street Theatre continue this weekend as Spamalot takes the stage for its penultimate weekend. The curtain raises on the show both Friday and Saturday though August 13.

Sutter Street Theatre’s own Connie Mockenhaupt is directing the local billing of this cult classic comedy. Mockenhaupt not only is the play’s direction but is also in charge of vocal direction and choreography of the play that is expected to bring non-stop laughs through August 13.

According to the playbill, the stage version of Spamalot is, “lovingly ripped off,” from the classic film comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Monty Python’s Spamalot retells the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, and features a bevy of beautiful show girls, not to mention cows, killer rabbits, and French people. Did we mention the bevy of beautiful showgirls? The 2005 Broadway production won three Tony® Awards, including Best Musical, and was followed by two successful West End runs.

With such classic songs as “He Is Not Dead Yet”, “The Song That Goes Like This”, “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life” and the ever popular “Fisch Schlapping Song”, the outrageous, uproarious, and gloriously entertaining story of King Arthur and the Lady of the Lake will delight you as they search for the Holy Grail and “always look on the bright side of life.”

Spamalot takes the stage on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. as well as Sunday’s at 4:30 p.m.  The play is rated PG-13.

In addition to the Python classic, Sutter Street Theatre is also presenting Aladdin Jr. This showing is ideal for younger audiences in both content and with its early showtimes.

According to Sutter Street Theatre, Aladdin Jr. is the story of Alladin you all know and love has been given the royal treatment in this adapted stage version designed for young audiences.  The story begins as Aladdin and his three friends, Babkak, Omar, and Kassim, are down on their luck until Aladdin discovers a magic lamp and the Genie who has the power to grant three wishes. Wanting to earn the respect of the princess, Jasmine, Aladdin embarks on an adventure that will test his will and his moral character.

Aladdin Jr. will run until August 20 with matinee billings to appeal to young audiences and families. The new show to come is directed by local resident Kate Rolls with musical direction by Connie Mockenhaupt. Choreography for the Rated-G musical is by Deven and Keira LePage.
