California’s state Capitol was evacuated Thursday morning after a “credible threat,” prompted California Highway Patrol to take safety measures.
The incident prompted the California State Senate to delay its Thursday floor session and lawmakers. Many lawmakers have been working in other areas due to the ongoing remodel of the facility.
The California Highway Patrol notified the Senate of the potential danger this morning shortly after 9 a.m. ., Prompting the evacuation of the Capitol and putting its security partners on high alert in the surrounding area.
“The CHP and security partners are present at the capitol in higher numbers in the Capitol area and are aware of the situation,” the Secretary of the Senate said in a statement.
Initial reports stated that some inside the building have been asked to shelter in place or remain inside their offices Staff members that were not yet in the area were reportedly been told to work remotely.
Just before 10 a.m. the evacuation was lifted. Lawmakers were checking in to the building to resume their session. Initial reports indicate that the credible threat may be tied to a recent incident in which a building at Kaiser Permanente in Roseville was struck by a bullet and a threat was received involving the State Capitol.
This is a developing story at this time.
