Fire season is beginning to show its arrival in the region. Monday afternoon firefighters were busy responding to a string of grass fires along Highway 50 on the Bass Lake grade prior to the Bass Lake Road exit.

According to a report by the El Dorado Hills Fire Department, units from their department as well as Cal Fire were dispatched to the south side of the highway near the Bass Lake Road exit shortly before 12 p.m. on Monday to a reported vegetation fire.

As they arrived to the scene, firefighters were faced with three separate fires along the same stretch of highway.  Prior to initiating an attack on the fires, one nearby structure was threatened during its forward progress.

The fires burned a collaborative total of two acres according to Michael Lilienthal, Deputy Fire Chief with the El Dorado Hills Fire Department.  Lilienthal confirmed to All Town Media that the cause of the fires was being investigated.

Lilienthal used the fire to remind residents of the arrival of fire season and to make sure their properties are prepared as vegetation is begging to dry quickly.

“Please make sure you protect your home by completing your defensible space this year,” he added.

As firefighters mopped up the fires, a roadside billboard  surrounded by burnt acreage was a vivid reminder that fire season is near. The sign displayed a fire plane in action with a Public Service announcement reading, “wildfire is coming, are you ready?”
