A series of suspicious vegetation fires reportedly threatened several homes near Orangevale and have kept firefighters from multiple agencies busy Wednesday evening.
The original call came in through multiple 911 calls at approximately 5:47 p.m. reporting multiple fires had ignited along the south side of Greenback Lane with homes nearby.
Dispatch records show that units from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District as well as Folsom responded to the series of fires. According to a report from Sacramento Metro Fire, crews first arrived to find multiple road-side grass fires along Greenback lane that were growing in size and threatening several homes.
Additional resources were dispatched to the scene to knock down the active fire. The quick response by agencies prevented any homes from being damaged. In addition to first responders, several citizens stopped along the route to help extinguish spot fires and protect homes near the fires.
Several fences were burned in the blaze. A total of nine engines responded with additional support units. Several crews are expected to remain on the multiple locations later into the evening as mop up operations will be lengthy.
No injuries were reported in the fire or the response. The cause of the fire had not been released. According to Metro Fire, the fire in currently under investigation due to suspicious circumstances.
Several engines and crews remained along Greenback Lane as of 9:20 p.m. Motorists should use caution if driving in the area.
