More than 100 students gather at Vista del Lago High School to collaborate on district priorities and student advocacy

Student leaders from across the Folsom Cordova Unified School District came together last week to reconnect, collaborate, and elevate student voices during the first Student Advisory Board meeting of the new year.

The FCUSD Student Advisory Board met Thursday, at Vista del Lago High School, bringing together 107 students representing seven middle and high schools across the district. The gathering marked the board’s first meeting following winter break and provided students an opportunity to reengage in districtwide discussions centered on student experience, advocacy, and leadership.

The Student Advisory Board’s work focuses on uniting the FCUSD student body while creating meaningful opportunities for students to share perspectives that help inform district decision-making. During the meeting, students toured the Vista del Lago campus, shared updates from their respective schools, and continued advocating for issues that matter most to students across FCUSD campuses.

A key portion of the meeting included participation in a Local Control and Accountability Plan data walk facilitated by FCUSD’s Categorical Programs Department. Through visual displays and guided discussion, students reviewed data related to student outcomes and district priorities, reflected on what stood out to them, and offered feedback aimed at supporting continuous improvement efforts throughout the district.

District staff emphasized that student input gathered during the data walk plays an important role in shaping future planning efforts, reinforcing the value of student engagement in accountability and goal-setting processes.

By promoting open dialogue and valuing student perspectives, Student Advisory Board meetings underscore the important role students play in shaping their educational experience and demonstrate how civic engagement begins within school communities.
