Superheroes were out in full force at Sandra J. Gallardo Elementary before the arrival of Halloween this year as students and staff celebrated “Superhero Day” in honor of Red Ribbon Week.

The school’s halls were filled with Spider-Mans, Wonder Women, Batmans, and other iconic heroes, all coming together to promote healthy, drug-free lifestyles.

The event, which coincided with the nationwide Red Ribbon Week, aimed to inspire students to make positive choices and prioritize their well-being. Red Ribbon Week is a time dedicated to raising awareness about the dangers of drug use and encouraging students to live healthy, active lives.

Fourth-grade teacher Michelle McDonald, who helped organize the event, explained that it was about more than just fun costumes. “We are choosing to show our kids all the healthy ways they can live their lives,” McDonald said. “I grew up as an athlete, so it’s easy for me to promote this. It’s about making healthy nutrition choices, getting outside, and living an active lifestyle.”

McDonald’s sentiment was shared across the school, as teachers and staff worked together to reinforce the importance of making positive decisions. “This is an easy way to show the kids how to live a healthy life and make good choices,” she added.

The event was a hit with both students and staff, fostering a sense of unity and fun while also emphasizing the importance of making positive choices for a brighter future.

A special thank you was extended to teachers Elizabeth Dunagan and Michelle McDonald for allowing the District Communications team to capture the excitement in the classrooms, and to all educators across the Folsom-Cordova Unified School District (FCUSD) for their ongoing efforts to build a drug-free, healthy future for students.
