ROSEVILLE – Wyatt King III, 47, was sentenced Dec. 16, 2024, to 58 years to life, plus 44 years, for the burglary and assault of an elderly couple in their Roseville home last year. The sentence was handed down by Judge Horst in Placer County Superior Court.

In July 2023, Roseville police reported that a burglar broke into the couple’s home after shattering a rear sliding glass door. The suspect, later identified as King, had been knocking on doors in the neighborhood, possibly to check if residents were home. Once inside, he used threats and physical force to control the victim, a woman in her 70s.

Ring camera footage helped officers identify the vehicle involved in the crime, leading to King’s arrest.

King was convicted of first-degree residential burglary, kidnapping, and conspiracy. He was also found guilty of committing a violent crime against a victim over the age of 65. Additionally, the jury heard evidence of King’s history of prior serious or violent felonies, including previous residential burglaries and an armed bank robbery.

“Our senior residents deserve to feel safe in their own homes — that is non-negotiable,” said Senior Deputy District Attorney Shannon Quigley. “The decisions the defendant made when he shattered the sliding door and terrorized this elderly woman permanently impacted her life. His continued criminal conduct shows he is incapable of rehabilitation. The only way to protect our community is to separate him from society.”

The case was prosecuted by the Placer County District Attorney’s Family Protection Unit. Quigley, who leads the unit’s elder abuse prosecution efforts, also heads the Placer PROTECT team, a multi-disciplinary task force dedicated to elder abuse investigations and victim support.
