WEST SACRAMENTO -For more than a decade, “Fourth on the Field” at Sutter Health Park has been a signature Independence Day celebration for the West Sacramento community and beyond, offering families an evening of on-field entertainment, music, food, and fireworks. But in 2025, the standalone event is no longer on the summer schedule.

After some media organizations are erroneously reporting the special event is planned, organizers confirmed that the long-running “Fourth on the Field” celebration will not return this year due to scheduling impacts following the arrival of Major League Baseball’s Oakland Athletics, who have temporarily relocated to Sutter Health Park while awaiting construction of their new stadium in Las Vegas. Now sharing the field with the Sacramento River Cats, the increased use of the facility has required changes to event planning and field maintenance priorities.

While “Fourth on the Field” as a dedicated event won’t take place, fans will still be treated to fireworks at the ballpark this week—just in a different format.

Sutter Health Park will celebrate the holiday with a full week of America’s pastime, offering two chances to enjoy postgame fireworks.

According to Sutter Health Park’s official announcement, “Due to the addition of the A’s and the resulting field modifications and increased use, the necessary downtime for field resurfacing and recovery will prevent us from hosting the Fourth on the Field event this year.”

The statement continues: “We know Fourth on the Field is a fan-favorite, and while we’ll miss celebrating with you this year, we look forward to bringing it back bigger and better in the future!”

For many, the news is bittersweet. “Fourth on the Field” had become a local tradition, drawing families from around the region for a full evening of music, food trucks, carnival-style activities, and one of the most anticipated fireworks shows in the area. Though it won’t return in 2025, the promise of a future return offers hope to fans eager to see the tradition continue.

From El Dorado Hills to Folsom, Cameron Park, South Lake Tahoe, and beyond, dozens of communities are hosting festive events with live music, family fun, and fireworks displays.

To help residents plan their celebrations, Folsom Times has created a comprehensive 2025 Fireworks Viewing Guide, featuring all the best places to catch a show this week. Whether you’re heading to the lakeshore, the hills, or downtown celebrations, the guide provides dates, times, and locations for each event across the region.

As for Sutter Health Park, the tradition of celebrating the Fourth with fireworks still lives on—this time with baseball as the backdrop.
