Historic Folsom’s Sutter Street Theatre is offering an exciting lineup of events this holiday season, bannered as Plaid Friday, to kick off the festive weekend. Plaid Friday, celebrated on Nov. 29, the day after Thanksgiving, aims to blend creativity, shopping, and entertainment, offering a unique alternative to the usual Black Friday chaos and it extends into Saturday and Sunday with a menagerie of offerings at the longtime community theatre in the heart of the city’s historic district.

The festivities will include an eclectic mix of art showcases, live entertainment, and exclusive shopping opportunities. This family-friendly event invites attendees to explore a blend of local artistry and holiday-themed fun, while enjoying discounts and unique deals on theatre ticket packages.

The Plaid Friday Art Show will spotlight the works of renowned artists Mike Jimena, Jerry Mamola and Brian Bibby showcasing over a century of creativity through oil paintings, charcoal sketches, sculptures, pen and ink, and more. The show will run on Friday from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the theatre.
A special art reception will be held on Saturday evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., offering guests the opportunity to meet the artists while enjoying light hors d’oeuvres, wine, and champagne.

Pop-up shop, live entertainment

A pop-up shop featuring a variety of holiday treasures will be open during the same hours as the art show. Visitors can browse antiques from the Karen Stroth collection, vintage costumes, handmade yard art by Laura Luke, and other unique finds from Kenny Gagni’s Treehouse Vintage. Sutter Street Theatre will also be offering collectables, including archival T-shirts, buttons, and prints.

Theatre-goers and holiday revelers can enjoy live piano music by John Wilder on Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., with 20-minute performances every hour.

On Saturday, the entertainment continues from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. with selections from “Holiday in the Hills” and other seasonal favorites. The weekend festivities will conclude on Sunday, Dec. 1, with a special performance of “Country Music Christmas,” featuring Joni Morris.
