FOLSOM – The Gallery at 48 Natoma is preparing to showcase the genre-defying work of Northern California artist Tamara Murphy in its latest exhibition, “Acts of Reciprocity,” opening August 29. The show will remain on view through October 23 and will feature Murphy’s unique blend of sculpture and mixed media.

A public reception will be held August 29 from 6 to 8 p.m., where visitors can meet the artist and enjoy light refreshments.

Murphy, a mixed media artist and educator, is known for her interdisciplinary approach that blends ceramics, glass, and fabric into cohesive yet unexpected forms. Her work invites viewers into an imaginative dialogue that explores connections among bodies, objects, and materials.

“Starting as disparate objects, I have found threads of connection between pieces to build into a cohesive collection,” Murphy explained in her artist statement. “Form, color, and material choices are guided by intuition and curiosity—inviting me into conversation with my work. Each conversation between works is an act of reciprocity.”

Murphy’s art has been featured widely throughout the western United States. In 2022, she presented a solo exhibition at the 1078 Gallery in Chico and has participated in group shows at the North Gallery at Archie Bray in Montana, the Butte College Art Gallery in Oroville, Kolva-Sullivan Gallery in Spokane, and the Museum of Northern California Art in Chico. Earlier this year, she completed the Greenhouse Residency at the Mendocino Art Center. She currently serves on the glass faculty at California State University, Chico.

Managed by the Folsom Parks & Recreation Department, the Gallery at 48 Natoma highlights the work of both regional and national artists and offers free admission to the public. The gallery is located at 48 Natoma Street, adjacent to Folsom City Hall. Hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with additional hours on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. Free tours can also be arranged by appointment.
