A pair of teenage suspects are in custody following a high-speed pursuit that began with a car burglary in a Folsom neighborhood and ended with a dangerous freeway chase early Sunday morning.

According to the Folsom Police Department, the incident began just after 4:00 a.m. on April 13 when a vigilant resident near Chan Court spotted two individuals breaking into her vehicle. The resident immediately called 911 and provided dispatchers with a detailed description of the suspect vehicle, prompting officers to begin an active search in the area.

Moments later, police located the suspect vehicle attempting to flee the scene. Officers initiated a traffic stop, but the driver refused to comply and accelerated onto the freeway, reaching speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour, police said.

During the pursuit, the situation escalated when the passenger reportedly threw a car rim out of the sunroof, striking a patrol vehicle and disabling it. Despite the sudden loss of visibility, the officer involved was able to safely bring the vehicle to a stop and was uninjured in the incident.

With the assistance of the California Highway Patrol, the pursuit continued until the suspect vehicle suffered a blown tire and slowed down enough to allow law enforcement to intercept. Both suspects attempted to flee on foot but were quickly apprehended by officers.

The driver, identified as a 16-year-old male, and the passenger, a 15-year-old male, were booked into Sacramento County Juvenile Hall on multiple felony charges, including reckless evading of police and assault with a deadly weapon. The passenger sustained a leg injury during the foot chase and was treated at a local hospital.

In a statement, the Folsom Police Department said, “We’re incredibly thankful to the resident who made that critical call and to our law enforcement partners who helped bring this dangerous pursuit to a safe resolution.”

Police credited the swift resolution to the alert actions of the reporting resident and the coordinated efforts of responding officers and allied agencies.
