Powerhouse Pub in Historic Folsom has a busy weekend ahead, featuring three straight days of live music spanning a variety of genres. The weekend also includes a special alumni event for Chico State University.
The festivities kick off Friday with a Chico Alumni Party featuring G Ride & The Funnels at 4 p.m. This public event promises an afternoon of lively music and camaraderie for alumni and friends.
The Funnels, a high-energy band well-known for their engaging performances, are a crowd favorite in Northern California. Their repertoire spans rock, funk, and dance hits, creating an infectious atmosphere that gets everyone moving. With polished musicianship and dynamic stage presence, The Funnels are sure to deliver a memorable start to the weekend.
Later that night, Adam Aldama & The Aces take the stage at 10 p.m. Known for their themed performances, the group delivers a dynamic repertoire, including tributes to Prince, Bruno Mars, Michael Jackson, and 2000s hits through their Y2K Live series.
Aldama and The Aces debuted their first show together in March 2021 at Mango’s nightclub in downtown Sacramento. Since then, the group has been performing consistently throughout California at clubs, private events, and festivals. Their setlists feature a wide variety of music, including throwback hip-hop and R&B, pop, old-school hits, and Top 40 favorites.
The Aces also offer themed performances, such as their Prince tribute band The Red Corvettes, Finesse: The Bruno Mars Tribute Show, 2Bad: The Michael Jackson Tribute, Y2K Live for 2000s music, and Night Fever: The Ultimate Disco Tribute Show. The five-piece group includes Adam Aldama (vocals/leader), Veronica Ballejos (vocals), Brett Sackett (lead guitar), Keywan Ryland (drums), and Jimmy O’Shea (bass). Their high-energy shows keep audiences dancing with captivating songs and plenty of entertainment.
Saturday, Dec. 14, begins with Echo Summit performing at 3 p.m. during the Saturday Afternoon Dance Party. This premium eclectic rock band will set the tone for an upbeat day. That evening at 10 p.m., the Night Fever Disco Party brings retro vibes to the dance floor. This five-piece band transports audiences back to the disco era with hits from the Bee Gees, Donna Summer, KC & The Sunshine Band, and more. Expect glittering energy, groovy beats, and a nostalgic atmosphere.
The weekend wraps up Sunday, Dec. 15, with Powerhouse of Blues featuring Lydia Pense & Cold Blood. Pense, a trailblazer in the Bay Area music scene for over five decades, has been instrumental in shaping the “East Bay Grease” sound—a fusion of funk, R&B, soul, and rock.
Born in San Francisco, Pense grew up surrounded by music and was inspired by artists such as Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles. By her early teens, she was performing in local clubs, developing the distinctive voice that would later define her career. In 1968, she joined Cold Blood, a band known for its powerful horn section and dynamic live performances. Hits like “You Got Me Hummin’” and “I Just Want to Make Love to You” earned the group critical acclaim and a devoted fan base.
Pense continues to tour and record, delivering emotionally charged performances that connect deeply with audiences. This intimate show begins at 3 p.m. on Sunday at Powerhouse Pub.
