RANCHO CORDOVA — Law enforcement officers are used to unusual calls, but deputies in Rancho Cordova recently found themselves chasing down a suspect whose wardrobe choice turned an ordinary theft response into a runaway barnyard tale.

According to the Rancho Cordova Police Department, deputies were dispatched to a local business after a reported shoplifting incident involving clothing and a Bluetooth speaker. The description given to officers was one they won’t soon forget: the suspect was last seen wearing a full cow onesie.

Before deputies could even gather all the details, the bovine-themed bandit had already hoofed it toward a nearby light-rail station in hopes of making a fast escape. Officer Rahimi was quick to respond and spotted the suspect before he could moo’ve far down the tracks.

A records check revealed the individual already had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant for theft. A search conducted during the arrest turned up the stolen items along with drug paraphernalia. Officers returned the merchandise to the store — avoiding what RCPD jokingly referred to as a “future beef” — and ensured the suspect was promptly transported and booked at the Sacramento County Main Jail for the latest round of charges.

While deputies deal with plenty of challenging situations, this incident was an udder reminder that even routine calls can take an unexpected turn. Fortunately, officers managed to wrangle the runaway cow suit culprit before his antics created any more mischief in Rancho Cordova.
