El Dorado Musical Theatre is ready to turn up the charm and turn the Harris Center pink as its latest production, Legally Blonde The Musical, opens May 9 for a one-weekend-only run filled with heart, humor, and high-energy performances. The beloved story of Elle Woods and her unlikely journey from sorority sweetheart to Harvard Law standout will take the stage in signature EDMT style—complete with dazzling choreography, colorful costumes, and a powerhouse youth cast.
A musical adaptation of the hit 2001 film, Legally Blonde follows Elle Woods, a fashion-loving college senior whose life is flipped upside down when her boyfriend Warner dumps her to pursue law school. Determined to prove she’s more than a pretty face, Elle follows him to Harvard and soon discovers her own voice, strength, and purpose in a world that underestimated her. The show, with music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin and a book by Heather Hach, has become a fan-favorite thanks to its catchy songs and empowering message.
The EDMT production is an “Encore” show, featuring performers ages 13 to 22 who were selected through a competitive audition process. Directed by Debbie Wilson, with choreography by Rachelle Johnston and vocal direction by Jennifer Wittmayer, the creative team is rounded out by costume designer Karen McConnell and producer Chris Hobbs. The show is rated PG-13 for mild language and some mature themes, but remains a heartfelt and humorous journey that resonates across generations.

Performances will be held at the Harris Center for the Arts on the Folsom Lake College campus. Showtimes include opening night Friday, May 9 at 7:00 p.m.; Saturday, May 10 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.; Sunday, May 11 at 2:00 p.m.; followed by final weekend performances on Friday, May 16 at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, May 17 at 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
