The shores of Lake Natoma will be bustling busy this weekend, but it won’t be your typical recreationalists and picnickers. Instead, it will be hundreds of top athletes competing in an intense fitness competition.
Known as the 5th Annual Norcal Classic. The event is a a three-day event highlighting different aspects of fitness, culture and lifestyle in the Northern California region. The event welcomes over 700 different high-intensity athletes from all over the West Coast .
The NorCal Classic kicks off annually with an open qualifier that takes place virtually, allowing athletes to compete from the comfort of their home gym. Now, areas along the shores of Lake Natoma and throughout the park look like that of a professional gym, complete with weight lifting equipment and set ups, cardio equipment and more.
Now in its 5th year, the NorCal Classic came about in 2018 with when regional competition for these type of athletes no longer existed, leaving the West Coast without a premiere fitness event to showcase its athletes.
According to organizers, the NorCal Classic was specifically created to fill that void and bring back all the different things that the regional CrossFit community loved about the early days of competition, including high level tests, athletes of all ages and abilities, all with,”a vibe undeniable to our region,” according to organizers. In a nutshell, the three-day event is a decathlon of fitness, taking place on land and water.
By early morning, the grounds were beginning to buzz as athletes began to arrive to the park that has been transformed to include an athlete village, stages, a vendor village and more. There’s even a beer garden on site for visitors and athletes to visit and celebrate their success. Additional parking has even been created nearby with a free shuttle into the event.
Due to the number of athletes packing the area, the event is ticketed this year with general admission passes for all three days starting at $20. More information on the event at tickets can be found at: https://thenorcalclassic.com/tickets/.
