A man was arrested Thursday after allegedly attacking individuals with a pickaxe at Folsom City Lions Park, according to a report released by the Folsom Police Department today. The incident was among two different assaults near Folsom parks on Thursday, both of which were unrelated.
According to Folsom Police, the incident occurred just before 8:00 a.m. when Folsom Police Dispatch received multiple calls reporting the assault. Witnesses stated that the male suspect dropped the pickaxe following the attack and fled the area on foot, heading towards the nearby Johnny Cash Trail.
Responding officers swiftly located and apprehended the suspect, identified as 20-year-old transient Nick Impellezzeri, near the 200 block of Leidesdorff Street.
According to law enforcement officials, Impellezzeri had been banned from the city’s winter homeless shelter the previous night.
The victim, also homeless, sustained injuries in the attack and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. The victim’s injuries included lacerations to the arm and a puncture wound to the shoulder.
Impellezzeri has been booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on charges of attempted murder.
In a statement, Folsom Police Department emphasized the swift and peaceful resolution of the incident, expressing gratitude that no additional injuries occurred. “Our officers are often faced with tense, rapidly evolving situations involving violence or deadly weapons. We are thankful this situation was resolved quickly and peacefully, and that no one else was injured,” the statement read.
