A man was arrested Tuesday after attempting to kidnap a middle school student at a bus stop in Granite Bay, according to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred around 8 a.m. at a bus stop near Douglas Boulevard and Quail Oaks Drive.
Authorities said the suspect, described as a transient man, approached the child and demanded that the student leave with him.The child managed to run home and alert their parents, who immediately called authorities.
“The middle school student was waiting for the bus when the suspect approached and told the student they had to leave with him,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “The student ran home and told their parents, who contacted us. Deputies responded quickly and located the suspect. He initially refused to comply but was eventually taken into custody.”
The suspect, 38-year-old Joshua Landreth, was booked into the Placer County Jail on several charges, including attempted kidnapping.
The incident remains under investigation.
