Alder Creek Elementary School briefly went into lockdown Tuesday afternoon as a precaution after a parent reported concerning statements made by an individual in relation to picking up children from the school, according to the Folsom Police Department.
“We received a report from a parent that a person had made some concerning statements about picking up kids from the school,” said Folsom Police Commander Andrew Bates. “No threat against the school was made, but the school was briefly locked down while officers secured the campus and made sure everyone was safe. The lockdown has been lifted and the incident is still under investigation.”
Parents were notified around 2:40 p.m. that the school was on lockdown “out of an abundance of caution,” according to a message from Principal Sarah Perinzen. The notice assured families that all students were safe, accounted for, and inside the building. Parents were also asked not to come to the school office to pick up their children during the lockdown.
The Folsom Cordova Unified School District later confirmed that the lockdown had been lifted. Angela Griffin, a spokesperson for the district, reiterated that there was no police activity on the school campus prior to the lockdown and that the measures were precautionary due to activity in the surrounding area.
As of early Tuesday afternoon, no further details about the incident or the person involved had been released. School officials and police emphasized that all students remained safe throughout the incident and that the situation had been resolved.
