“Battling this fire was especially challenging due to the 109-degree heat. After extinguishing the fire, crews were dispatched to the Pay Fire near the Placerville Airport. A busy day for our firefighters,” the department said in a statement.

The Pay Fire broke out earlier in the day Saturday, prompting evacuations in Placerville and a response by multiple fire agencies in the region to provide aid.  The fire is contained to 77.5 acres as of Monday morning and is reportedly holding within its lines.

Firefighters are battling an additional fire in the Tahoe National Forest that broke out on Sunday afternoon.  Known as the Royal Fire near Royal Gorge near the area of Soda Springs Road, it has burned 168 acres so far as of Monday morning.
