Multiple units from Sacramento Metropolitan and Folsom Fire Departments have been working a vegetation fire in the area of the Orangevale Bluffs above Lake Natoma Sunday evening. 

The initial dispatch call took place at 5:38 p.m after a 911 call reported an active fire visible in the area of the 2900 block of the American River Parkway. The fire is reportedly near the same area as one that burned several acres last Tuesday.

Multiple engines from both agencies are on the ground attacking the fire that reportedly is burning in the area of Morninglo Lane and surrounding streets 

Water drops are currently underway by Sacramento Metro Copter 1 as multiple units are accessing the fire at the level of the bluffs and below near Lake Natoma.

Watch duty command reports the fire has grown to 2-3 acres in size and is moving both east and west, prompting units to implement structure protection.

610 pm: Units report they have stopped forward progress on the “right” flank of the fire. Air drops continue on the interior of the burn area.

6:19 pm: Units report the area is approximately 4 acres in size and all forward progress stopped in both directions. Air units being released.

6:22 pm: Radio traffic reports that Metro’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is being dispatched to the scene to assist with personnel support as extensive mop up will require crews to be on scene for several hours into the night.

At this time fire officials have not released an official cause or source of ignition of the two fires that have taken place. The green belt area is a known area for homeless encampments.
