A beloved children’s story takes the stage in Historic Folsom with family-friendly performances through late December

FOLSOM — A story that has resonated with generations of readers is warming hearts on the local stage as Sutter Street Theatre presents The Velveteen Rabbit, now running through Dec. 28.

Adapted by James Still from Margery Williams’ timeless tale and directed by Sutter Street Theatre Artistic Director Allen Schmeltz, the production features performances on Saturdays and Sundays at 1 p.m., along with additional weekday performances scheduled throughout the month. The show is rated G and is designed for audiences of all ages.

The Velveteen Rabbit follows a young man as he reflects on his childhood and the friendship that shaped him, centered on a cherished toy bunny who longs to become real. Through imagination, gentle humor, and moments of heartfelt reflection, the story explores themes of love, belief, and the lasting impact of childhood bonds.
