A juvenile driver was apprehended and placed under arrest in a Folsom neighborhood early Friday morning after evading officers and crashing into a Folsom Police car during pursuit.
Shortly after 5:00 a.m. on Mar. 3, Folsom Police officers located a stolen vehicle while patrolling on Riley Street. As officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, the driver sped off, fleeing into a nearby residential neighborhood, prompting officers to initiate pursuit.
As the suspect sped through the residential area, they turned into a dead-end street where officers attempted to perform a Precision Immobilization Technique, better known as a “PIT” maneuver in an effort to bring the suspect’s vehicle to a halt and prevent further endangerment to the public.
Despite officer’s efforts, the driver continued to attempt to flee officers, accelerating into the opposite direction where they struck a trash can before striking an approaching police car that had just stopped partially blocking the roadway. The suspect struck the driver’s side of the police car before crashing into a nearby parked car.
The officer, nor the suspect were injured in the collision. According to Folsom Police the officer’s vehicle, along with the parked vehicle and the stolen vehicle driven by the suspect all received significant damage.
Upon apprehension of the fleeing suspect, it was determined they were a juvenile, preventing authorities from releasing any information about them. The suspect faces charges of grand theft and evading police.
The incident was captured on dash cam video by the Folsom Police Department, who shared it with Folsom Times and on their own social media pages.
