It was the evening of Dec. 17 when the Folsom Police Department’s Problem Oriented Policing (POP) Team responded to the Bel Air Supermarket located in Broadstone Marketplace after reports that the suspect seen in prior days had returned to the store and was stealing alcohol. The suspect fled the store as officers arrived, and a short foot pursuit ensued across the parking lot, followed by a struggle as officers apprehended the suspect, who was identified as Phu Doan, 52, of San Jose, according to the Folsom Police Department.
Over the course of several days, Doan reportedly had stolen nearly $7,000 in alcohol from the same store but managed to slip away before officers could arrive. During the apprehension, one officer received minor injuries as they attempted to handcuff Doan, who was then reportedly subdued and taken into custody, according to Folsom Police.
According to the report shared by Folsom Police, Doan was also found to have a nationwide felony warrant for charges related to selling crack cocaine and methamphetamine, as well as organized retail theft and resisting arrest in Idaho. Doan was booked into Sacramento County Jail, where he will now face charges that include one misdemeanor for shoplifting and two additional felonies related to grand theft. As of Monday, he remained in the Sacramento County Jail with bail set at $20,000. Doan is scheduled to appear in Sacramento County Superior Court on Dec. 26.
