It’s a big week ahead in the region and there will be many eyes in the skies as the California Capital Airshow ready is set to captivate aviation enthusiasts of all ages, as it roars to Mather Airport in Sacramento this weekend Sept 23 and 24.  

If you want to go to this spectacular local event,this is the final week to get your tickets. All tickets are pre-sale for the show and no tickets will be available at the event. While it is a fact many of the spectacles can be seen in the air when it takes place, there is a whole lot to experience on the ground inside the airpark that is fun for all ages. The best part, kids 15 and under get in free with an adult so its a great event for families.

As the upcoming aviation festival nears, it promises two days of non-stop thrilling aerial performances from the world’s best aerial performers from 12-4 PM each day, including finale performances from the United States Air Force Thunderbirds jet demonstration team. 

This will mark the first time the Thunderbirds take to the Sacramento County skies in two years and they were absent from the event last year due to scheduling conflicts.  The nations top pilots and their breathtaking machines are set to arrive locally just after the noon hour on Thursday 

Friday, the team will be participating in a dress rehearsal to prepare for the weekend ahead. Friday night, fans have a unique opportunity to meet the pilots at a “Meet the  Thunderbirds event” taking place at Village Green Park from 6 pm until 8 pm. The event is free to the public. Village Green Park is located at 3141 Bridgeway Drive in Rancho Cordova 

In addition to the Thunderbirds, attendees will enjoy performances from:

  • US Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet TacDemo

·       US Air Force C-17 Globemaster III Demonstration Team

  • Air Force Heritage Flight featuring the A-10 Thunderbolt II & P-51 Mustang

·       US Air Force U-2 Dragon Lady

  • Award-winning pilot and coach Bill Stein in his Edge 540
  • Aerobatic performer Jim Peitz in a Beechcraft F33C Bonanza
  • Eric Tucker’s Air Patrol, performing in a 1941 Piper J-3 Cub

When not enjoying the performances in the sky, attendees can explore 171 miles of static aircraft displays and exhibitor booths on the ground from 9AM – 5 PM every day. 

California Capital Airshow has several ticket options that offer a range of event experiences. From General Admission (starting at $42.50; Children Under 15 Attend Free) to tiered VIP Experiences, attendees can choose the level of access and comfort they desire. The Capital Club VIP section provides prime seating, a delectable buffet, and an open bar, ensuring an extraordinary view of the airshow. For those seeking an elevated experience, the Flight Line Club Chalet offers excellent views, a buffet lunch, and private restrooms, making it the ultimate way to enjoy the spectacle. 

New this year is “The Hangar Chalet,” a venue within the festival where attendees will receive a commemorative tasting glass and seven tasters from select local brewers and distillers from the Rancho Cordova Barrel District.

The 2023 California Capital Airshow offers a host of new attractions and rare opportunities to meet performers up close. To kick off the festivities, a FREE community event will take place on September 22 at Village Green in Rancho Cordova where attendees can meet the USAF Thunderbirds and enjoy live music, food trucks and activities from community organizations.
