High school seniors and young adults can explore career opportunities in the construction industry with the help of virtual reality at the upcoming 8th Annual Skilled Trades Job Fair in Sacramento on Saturday, April 13.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center, 6151 H Street, and is organized by the North State Building Industry Foundation with a lead sponsorship from SMUD.

Job Fair attendees will have the opportunity to experience what it’s like to work in different trades through a virtual reality tool that will help them decide which trade would be the best fit.

They will get to virtually experience work in construction, plumbing, manufacturing, electrical and more before meeting with representatives from about 30 companies and construction training programs who are expected to be on hand to talk to job candidates.

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with prospective employers and possibly get a job offer on the spot. There is a nationwide severe shortage of approximately half a million employees in construction, and career opportunities not requiring a college degree include the trades, office work, warehouse work and manufacturing. Sacramento will need almost 10,000 additional employees to keep up with the pace of growth.

Attendees can also step into a photo booth to obtain a headshot they can use on their LinkedIn profiles.
