Rhea Khatra shares perspectives from student panel at CalSPRA Capitol/Foothills Back-to-School Kickoff
A Vista del Lago High School student is making her voice heard regionwide.
Rhea Khatra, a 12th grader and Communication Officer for the Folsom Cordova Unified School District (FCUSD) Student Advisory Board, joined peers from area districts for a student panel at the CalSPRA Capitol/Foothills Region Back-to-School Kickoff, held at the Placer County Office of Education.
The gathering brought together communications professionals from across Northern California to hear directly from students on how to more meaningfully incorporate student perspectives in district communications and decision-making.

Khatra underscored the power of student voice and the value of engaging young people as partners in policy conversations. “I’m beyond grateful to the FCUSD Communications Office, Assistant Principal Jeanine Holton, and CalSPRA for the opportunity. Student voices should be directly implemented into policy that affects students. Students should be partners not participates,” Khatra said.
District leaders credit student representatives like Khatra with helping elevate authentic perspectives from the classroom to the boardroom. Through her service on the FCUSD Student Advisory Board and her participation in regional forums, Khatra represents Vista del Lago and the wider FCUSD student body while highlighting how student insight can strengthen communication, community trust, and outcomes.
The event’s theme, “Possibilities,” came to life through the stories and guidance shared by student leaders. The California School Public Relations Association emphasized its ongoing partnership with school districts to foster connections and amplify student voice—reminding attendees that the students they serve are essential partners in shaping effective school communications.
