The City of Folsom, the Sacramento Tree Foundation, and SMUD are teaming up for a unique tree planting event at Cummings Family Skate & Bike Park on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 9:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The event invites members of the public to help plant trees at the park while honoring its skateboarding community. In a nod to the park’s skateboarding culture, attendees will have the opportunity to suggest names for the newly planted trees, drawing inspiration from some of the most legendary skateboarders in history.

Volunteers will gather at Cummings Family Skate & Bike Park, located at 1775 Creekside Drive in Folsom, where they will receive a brief training session before beginning the planting process. The event aims to enhance the park by increasing shaded areas, providing more spaces for picnics, and improving air and water quality for years to come.

All necessary tools and supplies will be provided, and participants of all skill levels are welcome. Families with children are encouraged to join, and no prior experience is necessary.

In addition to planting, the event will feature a safety demonstration and an opportunity to work alongside experienced staff and volunteer captains. Volunteers under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian sign a consent form, and children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. The event is free, but registration is required, as space is limited.

For those interested in attending, pre-registration is available through the Sacramento Tree Foundation’s website. Volunteers will also receive detailed logistics and directions the week before the event. Parking is free, and public transportation via SacRT bus route 10 is available to the park.

This event is part of the Sacramento Tree Foundation’s Folsom NeighborWoods initiative, which aims to grow and care for the urban forest in Folsom. Support for the event is provided by SMUD and the City of Folsom, and volunteers are encouraged to bring a water bottle and dress appropriately for the weather.
