Residents in areas of El Dorado County have been given evacuation orders due to a growing wildfire Tuesday afternoon.
The Moccasin Fire near the community of Pleasant Valley and the southern border of Placerville has prompted evacuations for nearby residents, according to the El Dorado County Fire Protection District.
CAL FIRE reported Tuesday at 3:15 p.m. that the fire has expanded to 15 acres with a moderate rate of spread.
Evacuation orders are already in effect for the following areas with additional evacuations expected:
- Oak Hill Road
- Moccasin Trail
- Nashville Trail
- Metate Trail
- Calamity Lane
- Rocky Ridge Road
- Los Cerros Drive
- Pepperland Road
- Meander Lane
Evacuation warnings are also issued for all roads north of Pleasant Valley Road.
The fire is burning on the south end of Oak Hill Road off the Moccasin Trail, south of Placerville. Authorities initially noted one home was burned by the fire.
The sheriff’s office said an overnight shelter has been established at the Cameron Park Community Services District, located at 2502 Country Club Drive in Cameron Park.
Updates:
3:45 pm: The fire has burned approximately 20-25 acres as of 3:41 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office.
4:31 pm: According to the El Dorado County Fire Protection District said that crews have made “good progress” on the fire and retardant lines are holding.
Update as of 6:05 pm. The fire is at 50 acres and 0% contained.
A large animal evacuation shelter is now located at Saureel Vinyards, 1140 Cold Springs Road in Placerville.
By 8:51 pm, officials reported they had gained 15% percent containment on the fire. Crews will continue workitn overnight to increase containment.
As of 7:00 am on Wednesday the fire was recorded at 51 acres in size was and was reported to be 25% contained by CalFire officials. Evacuation orders and warnings remained in place. Crews were to continue throughout the day to strengthen the control lines and mop up hot spots.
Multiple agencies have been assisting with the firefight on incident including the U.S. Forest Service,Eldorado National Forest, El Dorado County Fire Protection District, El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, El Dorado Hills Fire Department, Diamond Springs El Dorado Fire Protection District, Garden Valley Fire Protection District, CHP – Placerville, Tribal Fire • Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians, and Rescue Fire Department.
