EL DORADO HILLS — Two kayakers were brought to safety Monday evening after strong winds created hazardous conditions on Folsom Lake, prompting an emergency response from El Dorado Hills Fire Department and the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office.
The pair found themselves in distress as gusty winds swept across the region throughout the day, turning the lake’s surface into a field of choppy, unstable water. The conditions made navigation difficult, particularly for smaller watercraft like kayaks.
Shortly after the distress call, emergency crews from El Dorado Hills Fire’s Water Rescue 84 team responded to the scene. El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office deployed their Echo 1 helicopter to assist in the search and coordination from above.
The two kayakers were located by first responders, and the water rescue team was able to safely retrieve them from the lake, bringing them to shore near Brown’s Ravine According to officials, neither individual sustained injuries during the incident.
The rescue serves as a timely reminder of how quickly lake conditions can become dangerous, especially during spring wind events that are often common in the region. Emergency responders urge those recreating on the water to remain cautious and to check weather conditions before launching, particularly when using performance or non-motorized craft.
