ORANGEVALE — A woman was found dead inside an Orangevale home Tuesday afternoon after a reported gas odor prompted a large emergency response and the evacuation of nearby residents, authorities said.
Multiple Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District and Folsom Fire Department units were dispatched to the 7800 block of Mountain Avenue at approximately 2:06 p.m. after reports of a possible gas leak in the area. Dispatch records show multiple fire units responded, including engines, medic units and command staff, as crews worked to assess the situation and secure the neighborhood.
As a precaution, officials closed Mountain Avenue between Cherry and Golden Gate avenues and ordered evacuations for surrounding homes while firefighters investigated the source of the odor. Fire personnel remained on scene for more than an hour before the incident was cleared shortly after 3:36 p.m., according to dispatch data.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office later confirmed that a woman was found deceased inside the home connected to the gas odor call. Authorities said the gas issue was believed to have originated from the home, though the exact cause of the leak has not yet been determined.
Once crews determined the area was safe, evacuations were lifted and residents were allowed to return to their homes. No additional details about the woman’s identity or the circumstances surrounding her death were released. The death remains under investigation.
