This weekend, history and high energy collide collide once again in Historic Folsom as the band that struck the very first chord at Powerhouse Pub 25 years ago makes another visit to the local stage. Wonder Bread 5, the San Francisco-based party powerhouse, takes the stage Saturday night at 10 p.m. in what aways seems to be a full-circle celebration for both the band and the venue.
Back in 2000, when Powerhouse first opened its doors as a live music venue, Wonder Bread 5 was the debut band to hit the stage. A quarter-century later, they’re returning to the very room where it all started, bringing with them the same signature style and full-throttle showmanship that has made them one of the most in-demand live dance bands around.
Formed from a tight-knit group of lifelong friends, Wonder Bread 5—Chris Adams (keyboards, vocals), Jeffrey Fletcher (vocals), John McDill (bass, vocals), Tommy Rickard (drums, vocals), and Michael Taylor (guitar, vocals)—has spent decades thrilling audiences worldwide with their wildly diverse setlists and over-the-top stage presence. Known for their crowd engagement and ability to cover everything from today’s chart-toppers to classics from the ‘60s through the 2000s, the band’s shows are as unpredictable as they are unforgettable.
No two Wonder Bread 5 performances are ever the same, but one thing is guaranteed: the dance floor will be packed from the first note to the last. As Powerhouse continues to celebrate its 25th anniversary year, Saturday night’s show is sure bring a taste of nostalgia along with that rocking energy Wondered 5 is known for again.
Earlier on Saturday, the weekend kicks off with the Saturday Afternoon Dance Party featuring 3 Shots of Rock at 3 p.m. Formed in 2018, 3 Shots of Rock is made up of experienced Northern California musicians playing some of the best classic, Southern, and hard rock stretching from the 60’s to today. The band features local players with decades of experience in other successful Sacramento bands and never fails to put on a high energy professional show—an ideal warmup before the Wonder Bread 5 celebration later that night.
On Sunday at 3 p.m., Powerhouse of Blues welcomes the return of Valdes & Rolando. This high-energy rock and blues band, with a Latin twist, delivers an electrifying show featuring the iconic music of Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Santana, and Stevie Ray Vaughan, among others. Johnny Valdes and Derek Rolando are highly accomplished musicians, each with his own album, and have played and recorded with some of Northern California’s top artists. Rounding out this powerhouse quartet are drummer Dave Hawkes and bassist Clint Day, bringing even more depth to their dynamic sound.
