Mark your calendar! A very important day is coming next week. Make your travel plans early. July 21 is National Ice Cream Day. Did you know that this event occurs every third Sunday in July? Not to be confused with that other famous national holiday that occurs every fourth Thursday in November.

In This momentous ice cream day was the idea of Ronald Reagan. In 1984, he decreed a day for ice cream. So, if he loved ice cream and made it into a “Day”, you know I just had to check; Is there a National Jelly Belly Day? And there is! Actually, it’s just National Jelly Bean Day and it’s on April 22. But back to ice cream. I love great ice cream and I have my favorites. I’m pretty sure that I eat below the national average of four gallons of ice cream per year. At least I’m hoping so or I’ll be renewing my gym membership. A few years ago, the National Today science team did a study and surveyed about 2000 Americans about ice cream. This is the season of polls, right? But I find some of these findings to be especially fun.

Thirty percent of the people surveyed said that they would eat ice cream at every meal if they could. Seven percent responded that they have canceled plans to stay in and eat ice cream. What? Who are these people being surveyed? Pre-schoolers? The survey also showed that favorite flavors differed by age group. That seems to make sense. While 14-17 year olds favor Mint Chocolate Chip, Strawberry and then Cookie Dough, the above 45 group was Chocolate, Vanilla and Mint Chocolate Chip. Does that say something about how boring my age bracket is when it comes to ice cream flavors. Surprisingly, at least to me, Mint Chocolate Chip was in the top three of every age bracket. But even more surprising, is that the poll surveyed only those 14 and over, ignoring the 13 and under group who probably has the most to say about ice cream. LOL.

Upon further research, it turns out, the entire month of July is National Ice Cream month. And should you miss July 21, don’t fret. You have a chance to catch National Vanilla Ice Cream Day on July 23. And if you’re not yet sick of ice cream – and apparently there’s 30% of that group above that would not be – just wait until August. National Ice Cream Sandwich Day is August 2, and National Ice Cream Pie Day is August 18. My special day is August 3. On that day, I invite clients, colleagues and friends to a local park in El Dorado Hills to enjoy a free Pinkberry. The park has shade, playground, parking and most important, Pinkberry! If you’re interested, reach out to me for details.

In my informal survey of readers, what’s your favorite flavor? Favorite brand? Favorite local ice cream shop? For me, I am boring like I called out in the 45+ age group. In addition to those flavors, I do love Ben & Jerry’s Phish Food, Coldstone Chocolate Devotion, Haagen Dazs and Dreyer’s Slow Churn Caramel Delight. A visit to Handel’s, Leatherby’s, Alice’s with family and friends on a hot summer day just make such special memories. There are so many wonderful places in Folsom and El Dorado Hills to go celebrate a wonderful National Day like Ice Cream Day. Who knows? Survey says: Maybe I’ll be celebrating all month and every upcoming Ice Cream Day.

You can browse my local real estate update for El Dorado Hills (EDH) and Folsom while you sample your favorite ice cream. Maybe it’s Cookie Dough! When comparing numbers through the 2nd quarter of 2024 to the same period in 2023, home prices continue to increase. The average price of a home sold in EDH was just under $1,100,000 while in Folsom, the sold price was almost $850,000. Multiple offers continue to be common, but on average, prices of sold homes are right near list price; less than a percent over in Folsom and less than a percent under in EDH. Interestingly, the number of homes sold in EDH is down while it’s up in Folsom. In both markets, the Days On Market for those homes sold are lower as homes are selling a little faster.

I love where I live. I’m excited to continue to help more families in 2023 with their real estate needs. With proper planning and a good Realtor (Luckily, I know a really good one….), you can smoothly get to your next stage in life.
