The Gallery at 48 Natoma is currently showcasing the compelling work of award-winning artist Yen-Ching Chang in a new solo exhibition titled Moments of Connection: People, Places, and Presence. The exhibit runs through May 15 and offers Folsom visitors an immersive journey through Chang’s distinctive interpretations of portraiture, landscape, and still life.

Chang, born in 1980 in Taiwan, brings a refined artistic vision shaped by years of observation and practice. After relocating to the United States to earn her Master of Fine Arts from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, Chang established herself as a dynamic and thoughtful voice in contemporary art. Her style—reminiscent of classical artists like Thomas Eakins and John Singer Sargent—balances technical precision with emotive depth.

This mid-career survey presents a wide-ranging view of Chang’s work, revealing her ability to find narrative and nuance in even the most ordinary scenes. “I find beauty and meaning in the simplest moments,” she said, “whether it’s the interplay of light on a landscape, the emotions and expressions of people around me, the vibrant colors of a still life, or the quiet poetry of everyday objects.”

In 2024, Chang was recognized with the prestigious Jane Van Meter Award of Excellence by the Oil Painters of America, affirming her place as a leading figure in contemporary realism. She is also a juried member of the California Arts Club.

An opening reception for Moments of Connection recently welcomed art enthusiasts, collectors, and community members to engage directly with Chang and her work, featuring live music, refreshments, and a special appearance by the artist.

Operated by the Folsom Parks and Recreation Department, the Gallery at 48 Natoma serves as a vibrant hub for the arts, presenting professional regional and national artists, museum collections, and traveling exhibitions. With its mission to enrich the community through accessible and inspiring art experiences, the gallery continues to spotlight talent across a range of styles and mediums.

Located next to Folsom City Hall at 48 Natoma Street, the gallery is free and open to the public Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with extended hours Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. Free group tours can also be arranged by appointment.
