Units from the Folsom Fire Department responded to a reported water rescue/recovery near the area of Folsom Dam Tuesday evening.

At 8:10 pm Tuesday evening, multiple fire units, including two rescue boats were dispatched to the area of 7792 Folsom Dam Road for a reported victim in the water.

According to radio traffic, Folsom Police reported there was one victim on the shore of the river below the bridge at Folsom Lake Crossing.

Ground units were responding to assist police on Folsom Dam Road where the victim could be seen. According to radio traffic,  boats were originally entering the water at Black Miners Bar to attempt to access the scene by traveling upstream.  

Radio traffic at 8:22 p.m. from the incident command post reported the incident was being reclassified as a recovery effort for a body that would need tactical efforts and equipment to reach the area.

Sacramento County Sheriffs and California State Parks are assisting with the incident.

The body was that of a female, according to Folsom Police,and was first spotted by Folsom Prison staff doing their nightly patrol.Recovery efforts continued until nearly midnight Tuesday due to the steep terrain.


The investigation is ongoing as to where the victim entered the waters. The Sacramento County Coroner is investigating the specific cause of death. Authorities later identified the victim as an adult female from Placer County, whose name will remain withheld out of respect for the family at this time.
