RANCHO CORDOVA – An early morning fire tore through a duplex in Rancho Cordova on Tuesday, leaving eight people displaced and sending one person to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District crews were dispatched to the blaze on South White Rock Road near International Drive at 4:53 a.m. Upon arrival, firefighters found flames engulfing one unit of the duplex. Crews managed to contain the fire within 14 minutes, saving one side of the structure, though the other sustained major damage.
All eight residents, along with two dogs and a bird, safely escaped the fire,Metro Fire officials reported. One individual was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.
Firefighters credited the duplex’s functional smoke alarms for the quick evacuation and lack of serious injuries.
Crews remained at the scene into the early morning to address hot spots and assess the damage. Officials reported one unit of the duplex suffered major destruction, while other areas sustained minor to moderate damage.
The cause of the fire is under investigation according the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department.
