One of Folsom’s “sweetest” small businesses has earned statewide recognition, thanks to a sweet combination of community support, homemade excellence, and entrepreneurial spirit. Assemblyman Josh Hoover has named BJ Cinnamon as the 7th District Small Business of the Month for July 2025.
Located at 402 E Bidwell Street in Folsom, BJ Cinnamon is a local favorite known for its hot, fresh cinnamon rolls, handmade donuts, croissant breakfast sandwiches, and locally roasted coffee. Owned and operated by husband-and-wife duo Sochanthoeun To and Vearady Chea since 2019, the bakery has grown into a destination not only for Folsom residents, but also for visitors from throughout Sacramento, El Dorado Hills, and even Placerville.
“BJ Cinnamon is a perfect example of how small businesses enrich our communities,” said Assemblyman Hoover. “Sochanthoeun and Vearady have created more than just a bakery—they’ve built a beloved neighborhood institution and a gathering place for families and visitors alike. It’s also one of my own family’s favorite spots to grab donuts!”
That national recognition has helped shine an even brighter spotlight on the small East Bidwell shop, where weekend lines are a regular sight and customers often return again and again for the bakery’s signature creations.

BJ Cinnamon’s selection is made fresh daily, and its warm atmosphere reflects the dedication and care the owners put into every item they serve. In addition to classic favorites like glazed donuts and maple bars, the bakery frequently experiments with new flavors and creative offerings, such as their strawberry ring and the latest addition, a whipped cream mocha donut.
“Sochanthoeun, a former software engineer, and his wife Vearady moved into the bakery industry more than 20 years ago and have worked side-by-side building a successful family business ever since,” Hoover shared. “They were recently voted one of the best donut shops in the country by Yelp!”
BJ Cinnamon is open weekdays from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sundays from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Hoover encouraged the community to stop by, support the family-run business, and congratulate the owners on their well-deserved honor. “Please join me in congratulating BJ Cinnamon!” Hoover said.
Josh Hoover represents Assembly District 7, which includes the cities of Citrus Heights, Folsom, and Rancho Cordova and the unincorporated communities of Carmichael, Fair Oaks, Foothill Farms, Gold River, Mather, McClellan Park, North Highlands, Orangevale, and Rosemont.
