All lanes of eastbound Highway 50 have reopened this afternoon after being shut down for more than hour due a motorhome that caught fire while traveling east between El Dorado Hills Boulevard and the Bass Lake Road exit. 

At 12:06 p.m the California Highway Patrol received a call reporting a motorhome that was on fire and still driving on eastbound Highway 50 on the steep grade just prior to Bass Lake Road. The vehicle was reportedly traveling a slow rate of speed, at the time of the 911 call, the driver reportedly was unaware of the fast growing fire onboard of the vehicle, which was also pulling a utility trailer.

CHP units caught up to the vehicle just east of the Bass Lake Road exit where it became fulling engulfed in flames. Traffic was diverted off of the highway onto the Bass Lake Road exit as units from the El Dorado Hills Fire Department were enroute to the scene. Upon arrival, firefighters were faced with a fully involved motorhome and trailer.

Once the fire was extinguished and the vehicle was cleared from the roadway, all lanes of the eastbound 50 were reopened shortly after 1 p.m. 

There vehicle was a total total loss, there were no injuries reported in the incident, the cause of the fire has not been determined at this time.
