Students in the area are encouraged to join with others as Districts Make the Difference (DMTD) announces its 2024 student video contest, inviting high school and college students across the United States to showcase how special districts positively impact their communities. 

This contest not only offers participants the chance to win scholarships but also serves as an educational opportunity to learn about the essential role special districts play in local governance and service provision.

The DMTD Student Video Contest encourages U.S. high school students to create engaging and informative short videos (60 seconds max) that highlight the ways special districts ‘Make the Difference’ in local communities nationwide. Until March 31, 2024, students are invited to submit their entries showcasing the unique programs, services, or infrastructure projects spearheaded by special districts.

Entries will be evaluated based on four criteria: accuracy and effectiveness, creativity and originality, production quality, and entertainment value. The top ten finalists will be selected by DMTD, with final winners determined through a public voting period from May 1 to May 15, 2024.

The prizes include:

  • $2,000 for the First-place winner
  • $1,000 for the Second-place winner
  • $500 for the Third-place winner

Additionally, a $500 prize will be awarded to the teacher of each winning student to support technology and distance learning initiatives.

Special districts, also known as local service agencies, have been instrumental in ensuring the provision of vital services such as water and energy, fire protection, waste management, and public safety for over a century. They are directly accountable to their voters and ratepayers, ensuring transparency and accountability in governance.
