The Folsom Public Library will close for carpet replacement from May 9 to 25. The Library will reopen on Friday, May 26, for the beginning of the Summer Reading Challenge.

The new carpet will ensure the Library is a beautiful and welcoming space for the community. The Georgia Murray Building, where the Library is located, opened in February 2007. In the 16 subsequent years, it has averaged 800 visitors a day, making a total of 3.5 million visits by residents and visitors. Those seven million feet have worn down the carpet in high-traffic areas.

The Folsom Public Library is the busiest library in the Sacramento region regarding visits, number of items circulated, and program attendance. Storytimes are offered seven times each week, with attendance regularly exceeding 60 kids and adults. This year, it’s projected that 28,000 program attendees will participate in storytimes, book discussions, and speaking events. An estimated 523,000 items will be checked out from the Library this year, with 89% being physical items and 11% eBooks.

Library card holders are encouraged to check out books, DVDs, and other materials before the library temporarily closes on May 9. Due dates will be extended to three weeks after reopening to June 16.

“Not everyone knows they can check out up to 50 items per card, so it’s a great time to take home plenty of your favorite novels or DVDs to enjoy during the closure. With the extended check-out period, it’s a good time to stock up now,” said Library Director Thomas Gruneisen.

Folsom card holders may also visit Folsom’s partner libraries during the closure. Folsom cards are welcome at any Sacramento, Woodland, Colusa, or Sutter library. Nearby partner libraries in Orangevale and Rancho Cordova remain open to meet the public’s library needs during the closure. The El Dorado Hills Library is also a nearby option. Though not a partner library, El Dorado County Library cards are available for all Californians to check-out items.
