It was a special day of welcoming and celebration Wednesday at the Folsom Fire Department. Fire Chief Ken Cusano and department leadership came together with city dignitaries and members of the community to welcome a new addition to the department and promote three others to the ranks of captain and engineer.

Headlining the ceremony was the welcoming and swearing in of Meg Edlund. Endlund has joined the Folsom Department under the title of Fire Prevention Officer. Edlund is a longtime local to the area who brings a great deal of knowledge and industry education to the new position.

Much like Cusano, Edlund grew up in the community of Folsom and became interested in the Fire Service during high school where she participated in Folsom’s Teen CERT and the El Dorado Hills Fire Department’s Explorer program.

After graduating from Folsom High School, she attended Sierra College in Rocklin and received her Emergency Medical Technicinn (EMT), Firefighter 1, and Associates degree. After discovering she had an injury requiring back surgery, Edlund transitioned from firefighting to fire prevention. She gained fire prevention experience and knowledge working for CAL FIRE and and the Cameron Park Fire Department.

As Edlund was welcomed to her new position, Wednesday’s ceremony shifted to celebrating promotions in the department. The first promotion was that of Sean Hennessy to the rank of Captain.

Hennessy moved to California when he was in elementary school and was raised in Pleasant Hill. He began his firefighting career working for the River Delta Fire Department as a volunteer for 3 years. In 2020, he came to Folsom when he was hired by the Folsom Fire Department and moved to Folsom. Wednesday, Hennessy was officially pinned with the title of Captain with the department.

Another longtime member of the department was pinned as a Folsom Fire Department Captain Wednesday. Erick Johnson has been with the department for nine years.

Johnson was born in Sacramento and raised in Placerville. He has been a dedicated Eagle Scout.  After high school, he served a two-year mission in Argentina, becoming fluent in Spanish.

Johnson earned a bachelor’s degree from Bringham Young University in Idaho as well as his Paramedic certification. Johnson is a graduate of the Sacramento Fire Academy. Johnson worked for Eldorado County Fire for eight years, alongside his father, Mark, who retired from the agency. He has been with Folsom Fire since 2014 and has been an engineer for the last 5 years.

The final promotion on Wednesday was that of Nick Boule. Boule earned his pin for the position of Fire Engineer after several years with the Folsom Fire Department.

Boule was born in Mesa, Arizona and raised in Roseville. He graduated from Roseville High School and attended Sierra College for fire technology, completing the Sierra College Fire Academy Class 12-1.

Shortly after graduating, Boule volunteered at both Lincoln and Nevada County Fire Departments. Boule completed paramedic school and was hired by Folsom Fire in 2015.

Boule has been with Folsom Fire for 8 years and is passionate about both teaching and firefighter mental health.
