Folsom has another global tech company in town now. On Friday, leaders from the City of Folsom, the Folsom Chamber of Commerce and the Sacramento Economic Council officially welcomed Qualcomm to the city with a with an opening ceremony and ribbon cutting at its newest office location on Iron Point Road. 

Qualcomm is a global semiconductor design company with headquarters in San Diego. The company creates semiconductors, software and services related to wireless technology. It is the second global company to expand into Folsom in just six months. Back in November, Samsung opened an office location in Folsom. Additionally, Folsom is home to the Intel Corporation, Micron and PowerSchool, to name a few.

“Qualcomm’s new office opening highlights the growth trajectory of its compute business and underscores Qualcomm’s investment in Folsom’s flourishing tech ecosystem,” the company said in a statement prior to Friday’s celebration. “Qualcomm recently announced its AI PC platforms, Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus, which consumers will find in devices mid-2024.”

The new location at 1024 Iron Point will start off by hosting approximately 20 existing Qualcomm employees, many who reside in Folsom already and have been working remotely. The company plans to expand locally and provide additional jobs ahead.

We are very excited to have a new home here in Folsom,” said Kedar Kondap, senior vice president and general manager of Quallcom Technologies of Compute and Gaming. “I use to live in Folsom so I am pretty excited to be back here.  We really appreciate everyone coming here today to welcome us.”

Folsom Vice Mayor Sarah Aquino officially welcomed the company to the city Friday. Aquino was joined by fellow Folsom City Councilmember YK Chalamcherla. Troels Adrian, Executive Vice President of the Sacramento Economic Council also joined them at the table, surrounded by the excited Qualcomm staff who watched as the city and company shared welcome gifts.

“We are grateful that you have chosen to do business here in Folsom and are excited about the road you have planned ahead,” Aquino said on behalf of the city. “We are committed to doing everything we can do insure your success here.”

Qualcomm was established in 1985 by Irwin Jacobs and six other co-founders. Over the years, Qualcomm has expanded into selling semiconductor products in a predominantly fabless manufacturing model. It also developed semiconductor components or software for vehicles, watches, laptops, wi-fi, smartphones, and other devices.
