Folsom has another global tech company in town now. On Friday, leaders from the City of Folsom, the Folsom Chamber of Commerce and the Sacramento Economic Council officially welcomed Qualcomm to the city with a with an opening ceremony and ribbon cutting at its newest office location on Iron Point Road.

Qualcomm is a global semiconductor design company with headquarters in San Diego. The company creates semiconductors, software and services related to wireless technology. It is the second global company to expand into Folsom in just six months. Back in November, Samsung opened an office location in Folsom. Additionally, Folsom is home to the Intel Corporation, Micron and PowerSchool, to name a few.

“Qualcomm’s new office opening highlights the growth trajectory of its compute business and underscores Qualcomm’s investment in Folsom’s flourishing tech ecosystem,” the company said in a statement prior to Friday’s celebration. “Qualcomm recently announced its AI PC platforms, Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus, which consumers will find in devices mid-2024.”

The new location at 1024 Iron Point will start off by hosting approximately 20 existing Qualcomm employees, many who reside in Folsom already and have been working remotely. The company plans to expand locally and provide additional jobs ahead.

It also developed semiconductor components or software for vehicles, watches, laptops, wi-fi, smartphones, and other devices.
