A Folsom man is campaigning for California State Assembly District 7 in the next election for the newly formed district currently held by Folsom’s Josh Hoover.

At Mountain Mikes Pizza in Fair Oaks, local resident Braden Murphy recently gave a speech to over 50 people outlining his “bold progressive”, according to his campaign press release.  So far in the race, Murphy will face Hoover and additional candidate YK Chalamcherla,

Murphy was born with Cerebral Palsy and lives in Folsom with his wife and four sons, the older two they adopted from foster care.

Murphy ran for the State Board of Equalization in 2022 he earned over 225,000 votes. Even though in most states that would win a statewide election Braden did not win that race. In that race Braden had the endorsement of the California Democratic Party, California Nurses Association, California Federation of Teachers and many more, according to the release.

Murphy plans to, “flip this Suburban Sacramento County seat by talking about the issues that matter to people and running a BOLD progressive campaign.”

Murphy says he is running on a platform that puts 4 issues front and center. His four key issues in his own words include: “Having billionaires pay more in taxes. Providing universal health care through a single payer system. Putting more money into education to lead the nation in per pupil spending.Building affordable housing.”
