It each of the years it has taken place, the Historic Folsom Hometown Parade has grown in popularity and good old fashioned patriotic spirit with a definitive local flavor.

This Saturday, that trend is expected to continue as the event commences three big days of entertainment taking place in the Historic District, following the Thursday night Twilight Concert Series with Island of Black and White and the Friday night Folsom Hometown Country Radio Show that brings a stellar collection of the region’s top talent to the amphitheater.

“If you want to have a great time in Folsom this weekend, you may just want to get a room locally and stay the week, “ said emcee Ian Cornell as he opened last week’s concert to a standing room only crowd. “We have so many great things happening this week in Folsom you don’t want to miss.”

On Saturday morning, the Historic Folsom Merchants Association welcomes the community to Sutter Street Sunday morning as a number of events will prelude the actual parade. It all starts at 8 am when visitors can enjoy a pancake breakfast taking place at the Eagles Lodge on Scott Street.

After a hearty breakfast for great price, make your way to find a spot along Sutter Street to prepare for the parade that is slated to start at 9:30 a.m. sharp. The event will feature 70 entries this year and will fill Sutter Street with plenty of red white and blue until the 11 a.m. hour.

“We couldn’t be more excited to present this family-fun event to the district once again,” say Historic District Executive Director Judy Collinsworth.

The Hometown Parade will take place on Sutter Street from top to bottom, beginning at Scott Street and heading west towards Decatur Street. This very entertaining procession will range from fantastic floats to Wild West reenactments and everything in between and within it all, plenty of red, white and blue, including the arrival of the Painted Ladies Drill Team galloping down Sutter Street signifying the arrival of the Folsom Pro Rodeo next week (see related stories in the Folsom Times Folsom Rodeo section).

“Arrive early and enjoy breakfast in the district” added Collinsworth. “Make it great Saturday morning in Historic Folsom.”

The party’s not over when the parade ends. Many of the local merchants will offer specials after the parade as well as live performances, theater and more.

Parking is available in the Historic Distict Parking garage. Parking will not be permitted on various residential streets but Regional Transit is offering complimentary transit to the parade so hop on light rail further down the line and step off into a morning of fun!
